About RESTED
RESTED stands for Retire Early, Slow Travel, Experience, Discover. It’s my attempt to design a life that feels like mine, and to share the thinking, the numbers and the decisions while I’m still working it out.
I should say the most important thing first: I haven’t retired yet. RESTED isn’t a how-to from someone who made it and is now selling the secret. It’s the journey, told as it happens, including the parts I get wrong.
Who I am
I’m Greg Martin. I started out as an engineer and became a marketing executive, and I’ve spent years thinking seriously about retirement, travel and financial independence while living a full life: a career, a family, and homes on both sides of the Atlantic. I’m a dual US and UK citizen with deep roots in Scotland, which makes the planning more interesting than I’d like.
What you’ll find here
Honest thinking about retiring earlier than planned, travelling more slowly and more intentionally, and the life part of the plan that most spreadsheets skip. When I share numbers, they’re real or clearly labeled as modelled. When I don’t know something, I’ll say so.
RESTED is also a YouTube channel, and in time there’ll be a book and a community.
